Echoes Over Grosse Ile

Commissioned through the Detroit Institute of Arts' Partners in Public Art program, Echoes Over Grosse Ile honors the island's aviation history: the former Naval Air Station, the aircraft that filled its skies, and the aviators, service members and community who shaped it. The wall is personal, too. Wetiko's mother lived on Grosse Ile as a young woman while his father served in the U.S. Navy, and the piece follows the threads of memory and family that run through much of his work.
